Accounts accumulate across subscriptions, regions, and API types, and they are frequently owned by different application teams. Answering an estate-level question, such as which accounts are approaching their provisioned throughput, has generally meant opening the Azure portal one account at a time or building a reporting layer over Azure Monitor.

Database Hub provides that view natively, and there is nothing to onboard to get it. Baseline discovery and monitoring do not require moving data into Fabric, configuring mirroring, enabling Cosmos DB Fleet Analytics, or turning on diagnostic logs. Database Hub reads the Azure Monitor platform metrics that Azure already collects for your accounts. If your identity has Reader access to a subscription, its accounts appear.

What’s in the preview

Account discovery in Estate. Filter your inventory to Azure Cosmos DB and browse or search the accounts you have access to. Query-level diagnostics, slow-query analysis, partition key hot-spot analysis, and diagnostic log search. Continue to use the Azure portal, Insights, and diagnostic logs for deeper investigation.

Management actions are limited to account creation. You cannot scale RU/s from Database Hub. Reconfiguring an existing account, including throughput, indexing, and network settings, is done in the Azure portal, Azure CLI, Azure PowerShell, or an ARM template.

Performance dashboard is capped at 100 resources per view. Apply filters to bring a larger estate within that boundary, and confirm which accounts are selected before reading a chart as estate-wide.

Fabric-native Cosmos DB and Cosmos DB Fleet Analytics are not supported. The preview covers Azure Cosmos DB accounts.

Metric coverage and supported capabilities are expected to grow during the preview.

Get started

Database Hub uses your existing Microsoft Entra ID and Azure RBAC permissions rather than a separate permission model. You need a Fabric tenant with a Fabric or Fabric Trial capacity assigned to your workspace, and one or two role assignments depending on what you plan to do:

Reader, or a role with greater permissions, at subscription scope for each subscription containing accounts you want to discover and monitor.

Cosmos DB Operator, or a role with greater permissions, at resource group scope if you also want to create accounts from Database Hub.

From there, open Database Hub, go to Estate, filter the inventory to Azure Cosmos DB, and select the accounts you want to compare in Performance.

One thing worth knowing: seeing an account in Estate does not grant access to its data. Querying requires a Cosmos DB data plane role assignment and network access to the account.

Try it today

If you operate more than a handful of Azure Cosmos DB accounts, we would like to know whether Database Hub answers the questions you need to know about your estate, and which signals are missing.
