Announced at Microsoft Build: New features for scalable, cost-effective application development

Nikisha Reyes-Grange

Microsoft Build starts today and features exciting announcements about Azure Cosmos DB, along with demonstrations of new features and interactive sessions with members of our product team. We hope you’re able to join us live or on-demand.

New features for developers to build and deploy scalable applications

Azure Cosmos DB has been the database of choice for cloud-native app development on Azure since its launch at Microsoft Build in 2017. Developers now have more ways to dev/test free with Azure Cosmos DB. MongoDB data is now supported in public preview by the desktop Azure Cosmos DB Emulator for Linux, and the generally available Try Azure Cosmos DB Free 30-day trial has been enhanced to enable workloads to move to production more easily.

Once applications are built and deployed, the enhanced elasticity features announced today in public preview will enable developers to deliver consistently high performance at any scale:

To see these preview elasticity features in action watch Sr. Program Manager Justine Cocchi’s session BRK10 “Deploy modern containerized apps and cloud native databases at scale” on Wednesday, May 25 at 9am PT, and join the interactive session CATE10 “Ask the experts: Deploy modern containerized apps and cloud-native databases at scale” at 1pm PT with Sr. Program Managers Deborah Chen and Justine Cocchi.  You can also register for the interactive roundtable session on elasticity and cost-effectiveness features, hosted by Principal Program Manager Mark Brown at 11am PT on Wednesday, May 25.

Add enterprise-grade security and data backup to any app

Mission-critical applications come in every size, and the Azure Cosmos DB team is committed to making enterprise-grade features accessible to all. Role-based access control for the API for MongoDB is now in public preview, offering enhanced security to your MongoDB data in Azure Cosmos DB.  Additionally, a 7-day continuous backup and point-in-time restore option is available free of charge and now in public preview.

Build cloud-native HTAP workloads

Join Sr. Program Managers Gary Hope and Rodrigo Souza for an interactive training on Azure Synapse Link for Azure Cosmos DB. On Wednesday, May 25 at 1:30pm PT, they’ll host “Learn Live – Azure Cosmos DB: Learn how to enable analytics over real-time operational data with Azure Synapse Link for Azure Cosmos DB.” This session is a must-attend and will show you how to uncover valuable insights from the real-time data stored in your Azure Cosmos DB databases.

    Hi Nikisha,

I couldn’t find anywhere about this sentence you mentioned in your article. “Additionally, a 7-day continuous backup and point-in-time restore option is available free of charge and now in public preview.” – Could you confirm that.

The thing I am waiting for most is hierarchical partition keys, any update?

I’d like to see staggered pricing on storage. 🙂
