This release introduces version 1.9 to <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/terminal-preview\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Windows Terminal Preview<\/a> and migrates <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/terminal\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Windows Terminal<\/a> to version 1.8. As always, you can install both builds from the Microsoft Store as well as from the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/microsoft\/terminal\/releases\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GitHub releases page<\/a>. Let&#8217;s get into what&#8217;s new!<\/p>\n<h2>Default terminal<\/h2>\n<p>You can now set Windows Terminal Preview as your default terminal emulator on Windows! This means that any command line application will launch inside your selected terminal emulator (i.e. double click on PowerShell and it will open inside Windows Terminal Preview by default \ud83d\ude0a). This setting is currently in the Windows Insider Program Dev Channel build and can be found inside the console property sheet. We have also added this setting to the settings UI in Windows Terminal Preview.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>Note:<\/strong> We are still working on improving this experience and any feedback you have would be greatly appreciated on GitHub! Quake mode allows you to quickly open a new terminal instance from anywhere in Windows by typing <kbd>Win<\/kbd>+<kbd>`<\/kbd>. The quake window will appear on the top half of your screen and can easily be dismissed with the same keyboard shortcut. If you want to further customize how you can summon the terminal, check out the new features we have added for <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/windows\/terminal\/customize-settings\/actions#global-commands\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">global summon on our docs site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>Note:<\/strong> You cannot bind quake mode to a keyboard shortcut that is already bound in the OS. This includes PowerToys users who have <kbd>Win<\/kbd>+<kbd>&#96;<\/kbd> bound for the FancyZones layout editor. This italic variant comes by default inside the terminal and can also be downloaded from <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/microsoft\/cascadia-code\/releases\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GitHub<\/a>. Font versions without &#8220;Italic&#8221; in their name will have a standard italic without the cursive letters. These are being added to the existing Cascadia Code font set, however they will not yet be included in the italic font variants. A huge thank you goes to Mohamad Dakak for designing the Arabic characters and Liron Lavi Turkenich for designing the Hebrew characters!
