{"id":2593,"date":"2007-03-26T12:18:46","date_gmt":"2007-03-26T12:18:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/buckh\/2007\/03\/26\/web-interface-now-available-for-tfs-microsoft-acquires-teamplain\/"},"modified":"2007-03-26T12:18:46","modified_gmt":"2007-03-26T12:18:46","slug":"web-interface-now-available-for-tfs-microsoft-acquires-teamplain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/buckh\/web-interface-now-available-for-tfs-microsoft-acquires-teamplain\/","title":{"rendered":"Web interface now available for TFS: Microsoft acquires TeamPlain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have never had a web interface for Team Foundation Server work item tracking, much to the astonishment of our customers.&nbsp; Well, there&#8217;s a fix for that now.&nbsp; And you can download it today (see below for details).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/bharry\/\">Brian Harry<\/a> wrote a post this morning about the acquisition of TeamPlain.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/bharry\/archive\/2007\/03\/26\/microsoft-acquires-teamplain.aspx\"><strong>Microsoft Acquires TeamPlain!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today we are announcing that Microsoft has acquired DevBiz Business Solutions, the makers of the popular TeamPlain Web Access for Team System.&nbsp; TeamPlain is a web front end for VSTS that enables users to access the majority of TFS functionality from within a Web browser.&nbsp; The focus of TeamPlain is on work item tracking but it also includes some valuable version control capabilities (like viewing history\/change sets, diffing files, browsing the source base, etc.), some SharePoint integration, Reporting services integration, and some upcoming build support.&nbsp; TeamPlain gives VSTS a new avenue to reach a broader array of people within the development team who don&rsquo;t use Visual Studio today and don&rsquo;t want to install Visual Studio clients on their machines.&nbsp; It also improves reach by enabling some access from non-Windows clients. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/bharry\/archive\/2007\/03\/26\/microsoft-acquires-teamplain.aspx\">more&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When will it be available to our customers?&nbsp; Here&#8217;s the answer, quoted from the same post (emphasis is mine). <\/p>\n<blockquote><p> TeamPlain will become Microsoft Visual Studio Team System Web Access.&nbsp; <em><strong>Effective today, TeamPlain is available, at no additional charge, to users who own a Team Foundation Server and can be downloaded from <\/strong><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.devbiz.com\/downloads.aspx\"><em><strong>here<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em><strong>.<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp; <em><strong>It will be accessible by any user properly licensed with a TFS CAL.<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp; Support will continue to be provided by the current staff via the DevBiz <a href=\"http:\/\/dev.devbiz.com\/forums\/\">online forums<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Over the next few months, we will be rebranding TeamPlain as a Microsoft product and running it through our release process.&nbsp; When that is complete, we will be releasing it as a VSTS Power Tool, transitioning support to the Microsoft forums and beginning CSS (phone) support.&nbsp; In the Orcas timeframe, we will be releasing Team System Web Access as an official, documented, localized, and officially supported component of Team Foundation Server.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>TeamPlain also provides some access to TFS&nbsp;version control over the web. <\/p>\n<p>So, if you are a TFS customer, please download it, start using it, and let us know what you think of it.&nbsp; As with everything else, the sooner you send in your feedback, the more likely you&#8217;ll see changes in upcoming releases. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wlWriterSmartContent\" id=\"0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:1f81421c-763e-4ac6-9e5b-a5b53df716cd\" style=\"padding-right: 0px;padding-left: 0px;padding-bottom: 0px;margin: 0px;padding-top: 0px\">Technorati tags: <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/tfs\" rel=\"tag\">tfs<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/team%20foundation\" rel=\"tag\">team foundation<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/vsts\" rel=\"tag\">vsts<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/work%20item%20tracking\" rel=\"tag\">work item tracking<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/teamplain\" rel=\"tag\">teamplain<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/orcas\" rel=\"tag\">orcas<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have never had a web interface for Team Foundation Server work item tracking, much to the astonishment of our customers.&nbsp; Well, there&#8217;s a fix for that now.&nbsp; And you can download it today (see below for details).
