{"id":3221,"date":"2012-06-09T10:23:46","date_gmt":"2012-06-09T10:23:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/bharry\/2012\/06\/09\/update-for-vs-2008-and-tfs-11\/"},"modified":"2012-06-09T10:23:46","modified_gmt":"2012-06-09T10:23:46","slug":"update-for-vs-2008-and-tfs-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/bharry\/update-for-vs-2008-and-tfs-11\/","title":{"rendered":"Update for VS 2008 and TFS 11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&rsquo;ve finally gotten to shipping an <a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=254120\">update to VS 2008 SP1<\/a> to fully support TFS 11 &ndash; including the the hosted service <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tfspreview.com\">http:\/\/www.tfspreview.com<\/a>.&nbsp; VS 11 has supported it from the beginning, of course.&nbsp; We&rsquo;ve released <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=29082\">updates for VS 2010 SP1<\/a> along the way.&nbsp; And now we have an <a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=254120\">update for VS 2008 SP1<\/a>.&nbsp; This will enable VS 2008 SP1 to work fairly seamlessly with TFS 11 and the hosted service.&nbsp; As has generally been the case in the past, many administrative actions (creating Team Projects, creating Build definitions, modifying process templates, etc) will require you to use a VS 11 based Team Explorer but consuming them will work fine with VS 2008 SP1.\nFor those that want it, here&rsquo;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/2673642\">KB article<\/a> on the patch.\nThis list of fixes\/changes\/improvements in this patch includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>VS 2008 SP1 Team Explorer can now connect to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tfspreview.com\/\">TFSPreview<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>User names in Version Control, when connected to a TFS 11 server,&nbsp; are now displayed as full names (<var>Firstname Lastname<\/var>) instead of as account names (<var>domain\\alias<\/var>). <\/li>\n<li>Version Control Property change types, new in Team Foundation Server 11, are now displayed in pending changes and in check-in history. <\/li>\n<li>Users can now use the new security management web interface. <\/li>\n<li>Team Build     <br \/>This update fixes an intermittent build issue when there are a large number of build agents that are running against a Team Foundation Server server.
