{"id":303,"date":"2014-10-30T05:13:44","date_gmt":"2014-10-30T05:13:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/bharry\/2014\/10\/30\/vs-online-data-protection\/"},"modified":"2014-10-30T05:13:44","modified_gmt":"2014-10-30T05:13:44","slug":"vs-online-data-protection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/bharry\/vs-online-data-protection\/","title":{"rendered":"VS Online Data Protection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&rsquo;s not uncommon that I get questions about data security and privacy in Visual Studio Online.&nbsp; It&rsquo;s something we take very seriously, design for, test for and focus on.\nJeff Beehler, who runs our compliance team, did a talk at TechEd Europe this week on our data protection approach.&nbsp; As he worked to put together his presentation, he also put together a <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/VSOSecurity\">VS Online Data Protection document<\/a> to share the information even more broadly.&nbsp; You&rsquo;ll find it hosted along with other key service documents (like our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=42290\">service level agreement<\/a>) on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visualstudio.com\/support\/support-overview-vs\">VS Online support page<\/a>.\nIn addition to working to describe our approach to data protection, we have also begun our certification journey to officially document our adherence to established industry practices.&nbsp; We are nearly finished with our first certification &ndash; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ISO\/IEC_27001:2013\">ISO 27001<\/a> and, assuming all goes well, we&rsquo;ll achieve that around the end of this year.&nbsp; Soon after that we&rsquo;ll be working on demonstrating compliance with the <a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/justice\/data-protection\/index_en.htm\">European Model Clauses<\/a>.&nbsp; After that we&rsquo;ll continue our journey, working towards increasingly strict compliance regimens like <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Federal_Information_Security_Management_Act_of_2002\">FISMA<\/a> and others.\nI hope this document is helpful in understanding how we go about protecting your data.<\/p>\n<p>Brian<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&rsquo;s not uncommon that I get questions about data security and privacy in Visual Studio Online.&nbsp; It&rsquo;s something we take very seriously, design for, test for and focus on.
