{"id":1581,"date":"2014-01-21T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-21T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/bharry\/2014\/01\/21\/visual-studio-online-update-jan-22\/"},"modified":"2024-03-27T13:02:18","modified_gmt":"2024-03-27T20:02:18","slug":"visual-studio-online-update-jan-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/bharry\/visual-studio-online-update-jan-22\/","title":{"rendered":"Visual Studio Online Update \u2013 Jan 22"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, our sprint 59 deployment to VS Online went live.\u00a0 There\u2019s several new features and improvements that have been highly requested.\u00a0 All of the significant ones are in the general area of work management.<\/p>\n<p>Since we introduced tagging as a lightweight work item \u201ccustomization\u201d approach, people who\u2019ve tried it have had some consistent requests.\u00a0 One of the top ones was support for querying on tags (we only supported filtering initially).\u00a0 That feature was just rolled out to VSO as part of this deployment \u2013 give it a try.\u00a0 Other requests include the ability to work with tags in the VS IDE (rather than just in the web).\u00a0 That feature will be coming in VS 2013 Update 2 (stay tuned for a post on that soon).\u00a0 We\u2019ve got a few other things in the pipe to further complete this scenario and address the feedback so hang in there.<\/p>\n<p>The #2 UserVoice suggestion is:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/bharry\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2014\/01\/3113.image_thumb_5E229672.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15808\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/bharry\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2014\/01\/3113.image_thumb_5E229672.png\" alt=\"Image 3113 image thumb 5E229672\" width=\"484\" height=\"90\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/bharry\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2014\/01\/3113.image_thumb_5E229672.png 484w, https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/bharry\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2014\/01\/3113.image_thumb_5E229672-300x56.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 484px) 100vw, 484px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And this deployment adds the ability to configure your working days (not everyone around the world shares the same days off <a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/bharry\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2014\/02\/8228.wlEmoticon-smile_58CD4724.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15586\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/bharry\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2014\/02\/8228.wlEmoticon-smile_58CD4724.png\" alt=\"Image 8228 wlEmoticon smile 58CD4724\" width=\"19\" height=\"19\" \/><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>And more.\u00a0 Read Aaron\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visualstudio.com\/news\/2014-jan-22-vso\">sprint news<\/a> for more detail.<\/p>\n<p>In our efforts to get better about the instability we\u2019ve been introducing with our deployments, we delayed this deployment a bit and scheduled it for a weekend.\u00a0 The first half of the deployment went well, for the most part, with only one bug that affected a few dozen accounts that had a particularly unusual state of binding their accounts to VSO.\u00a0 We worked around that one quickly and got them working again (to my knowledge only a couple of people noticed this issue).\u00a0 The second half didn\u2019t go so well.\u00a0 We hit a performance issue in the Application Insights pages that caused the site to be unusably slow for a bit.\u00a0 We had to back out that change and get a fix.\u00a0 Today (Wed), we completed the rollout.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve written a fair amount about the issues we had in November and early December.\u00a0 We learned a lot in the process and some of our action items from that have been implemented but not all.\u00a0 Until we finish hardening some more of our rollout process, we\u2019re likely to continue to have hiccups on deployments \u2013 the service has simply gotten big enough (both in functionality and adoption) that the earlier processes weren\u2019t enough.\u00a0 I hope, in the next week, to write a post on some of the changes we\u2019ve already done and others that are on the way.<\/p>\n<p>Brian<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today, our sprint 59 deployment to VS Online went live.\u00a0 There\u2019s several new features and improvements that have been highly requested.\u00a0 All of the significant ones are in the general area of work management.
