{"id":11875,"date":"2016-05-09T07:55:03","date_gmt":"2016-05-09T12:55:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/bharry\/?p=11875"},"modified":"2019-02-16T22:46:18","modified_gmt":"2019-02-16T22:46:18","slug":"team-services-update-may-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/bharry\/team-services-update-may-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Services update &#8211; May 9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are in the process of wrapping up the deployment of our sprint 99 deliverables. \u00a0You can read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visualstudio.com\/news\/2016-may-6-vso\">Team Services release notes<\/a> here.\nThere&#8217;s a ton of new stuff in this sprint update but I&#8217;ll just comment on a few. \u00a0Let&#8217;s start with one of the oldest surviving UserVoice items &#8211; a checkbox control. \u00a0As you can see it was originally created in 2011. \u00a0We&#8217;ve added the control but there&#8217;s still some work to do. \u00a0We&#8217;ve update the web UI to support it but the rich clients (like Team Explorer in Visual Studio) don&#8217;t yet support it. \u00a0That&#8217;s coming. \u00a0Aaron is going to be publishing a blog post on the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/visualstudioalm\/\">ALM blog<\/a> with details you need to know.\n<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2019\/02\/Checkbox.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11876\" src=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2019\/02\/Checkbox.png\" alt=\"Checkbox\" width=\"744\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a>\nThe dashboard config improvements you see are the first step in a significant update to the dashboard experience that will bring some nice capabilities &#8211; drag and drop widgets onto the dashboard, drag resize of widgets, etc.\nThere&#8217;s lots of release management improvements. \u00a0TFVC and Git artifact sources are nice, making it even easy to deploy projects that don&#8217;t need a build (like Node.js). \u00a0Scheduled releases are cool, etc.\nThe other day, and I don&#8217;t remember exactly why, I took a few minutes to scroll through our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visualstudio.com\/news\/release-archive-vso\">features timeline<\/a>\u00a0from beginning to end. \u00a0It&#8217;s long but something really struck me. \u00a0When we first started our &#8220;cloud cadence&#8221; journey with our cloud solution, we delivered 1- 3 items per sprint. \u00a0Each year afterwards, the number got larger and larger. \u00a0Just for kicks I did a little math to confirm the anecdotal observation. \u00a0Below is a table that shows the average number of release note items in a month, year over year. \u00a0The growth rate is pretty phenomenal and (except for 2014 &#8211; which I call our &#8220;lost year&#8221;), is almost exponential.<\/p>\n<table width=\"194\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"64\">Year<\/td>\n<td width=\"130\">Average # of items per month<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2012<\/td>\n<td>2.8<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2013<\/td>\n<td>4.6<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2014<\/td>\n<td>5.4<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2015<\/td>\n<td>9.3<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2016<\/td>\n<td>18.0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Why do I call 2014, our &#8220;lost year&#8221;? \u00a0Buy me a beer sometime (OK, a water &#8211; I don&#8217;t drink much beer) and I&#8217;ll tell you \ud83d\ude42\nBrian<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are in the process of wrapping up the deployment of our sprint 99 deliverables. \u00a0You can read the Team Services release notes here.
